Neal Supports House Passage of Trade Legislation to Hold Russia Accountable

The following press release was published by the U.S. Congress Committee on Ways and Means on March 9. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, DC- Tonight, House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement after the House of Representatives passed the Suspending Energy Imports from Russia Act:

“Our trade policy is a powerful tool we must use to condemn Putin’s aggression and pursue peace. This legislation to ban the import of Russian energy products and evaluate Russia’s access to the WTO will help us hold the Kremlin accountable, but Congress should do more to stand up to Putin and protect the Ukrainian people. Our response to this horrific, unprovoked war cannot end here. When Congress returns to Washington next week, we will act decisively, in a bipartisan manner, to suspend permanent normal trade relations with Russia and Belarus."
