How politicians on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Committee dealt with bills on April 28

The Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Committee handled S.4111, S.4118 bills on April 28, according to the US Congress.

Bill S.4111 titled “Chronic Wasting Disease Research and Management Act of 2022” was read twice and referred to the Committee on Agriculture Nutrition and Forestry by the Senate. The bill is sponsored by John Sen. Hoeven with Cory Booker, Steve Daines, Martin Heinrich, Cindy Hyde-Smith, Amy Klobuchar, Roger Marshall, Tina Smith, Jon Tester as cosponsors.

Bill S.4118 titled “Neighborhood Tree Act of 2022” was read twice and referred to the Committee on Agriculture Nutrition and Forestry by the Senate. The bill is sponsored by Sherrod Sen. Brown with Cory Booker as cosponsor.

Most bills have a hearing where those involved explain why they are for or against the bill. Roughly 8,000 bills are addressed by committees each year but only about 800 make it to the floor of Congress, according to ushistory.org.

A 2019 report from the Brookings Institute argued committees aren’t capable of delving fully into the issues they address and are forced to rely on lobbyists.
