Three National Institute of Standards and Technology employees have received the George A. Uriano Award for outstanding achievements in building or strengthening the agency’s extramural programs, with special emphasis on fostering U.S. competitiveness and business excellence. The award was established in 1996 and is named for the first director of NIST’s Advanced Technology Program.
As part of the Energy and Environment Team in NIST’s Manufacturing Extension Partnership, the three were honored for leadership and performance improvement in energy and environmental services. These services have enabled MEP’s nationwide network of centers to help small manufacturers systematically improve environmental performance, decrease energy demand, and provide a better workplace.
Honored were the following:
* Krista Johnsen Leuteritz, MT. AIRY, Md., formerly with MEP, now Special Assistant to the Director, Office of Standards Services, Technology Services;
* Brian F. Sweeney, ELLICOTT CITY, Md., Manager, Environmental, Health and Safety Program, MEP; and
* Gregory R. Waldrip, ASHBURN, Va., Technical Advisor, Manufacturing Systems, MEP.
As a non-regulatory agency of the U.S. Department of Commerce's Technology Administration, NIST promotes economic growth by working with industry to develop and apply technology, measurements and standards through four partnerships: the Measurement and Standards Laboratories, the Advanced Technology Program, the Manufacturing Extension Partnership and the Baldrige National Quality Program.
