U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo affirmed the U.S.’s commitment to achieving “sustainable and inclusive economic growth” with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations during its Special Summit with the U.S. in May in Washington, D.C.

Raimondo gave remarks during the Special Summit High Tea with ASEAN Leaders and U.S. executives, announcing ways of building closer ties between business communities, a Department of Commerce news release said.

“Today, I am announcing that the U.S. government’s largest annual trade mission and business development forum, Trade Winds, will be held in southeast Asia in spring 2023,” Raimondo said in the release. “The forum will feature Thailand as its regional hub and include optional spin-off visits to five other ASEAN markets.

"We have many other efforts underway to strengthen our ties with ASEAN member states. We’re planning a healthcare mission to Southeast Asia in September and an advanced manufacturing trade mission to the region in October,” Raimondo added, according to the release.

In the release, Raimondo encouraged ASEAN participation in the 2022 SelectUSA Investment Summit to take place June 26-29 at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, Md. The SelectUSA Investment Summit promotes foreign direct investment.

“Thank you all for being valued partners to the U.S. I’m excited to continue our work together so all our nations can all succeed in the 21st-century economy,” Raimondo said, according to the release.
