Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack announced the U.S Department of Agriculture will be working with the Department of Defense to expand its efforts to work with Health and Human Services to get baby formula back on store shelves.

According to a May 18 USDA news release, Vilsack noted President Joe Biden directed the action and he noted the administration will take every action to ensure families have access to the formula their babies need.

“We know that this situation is causing stress and anxiety for many families across the country and President Biden has said that this administration will do everything in its power to ensure babies and families have access to the formula that they need,” Vilsack said in the news release.

According to the USDA, Vilsack also noted that the USDA is poised to step up to help improve the situation.

“At USDA, we take seriously our role in safeguarding the health of families served by our WIC program, which has been heavily impacted by the infant formula recall and resulting supply issues. USDA is taking aggressive action to support WIC participants,” he said in the news release.

The USDA release also noted Vilsack concluded all of the partnering agencies will get to work to deal with the situation.
