Van Nuys, CA - Congressman Howard L. Berman (D-A), chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, today issued the following statement about elections to be held this Sunday, June 7, in Lebanon.

“I congratulate the people of Lebanon in advance of their parliamentary elections this coming Sunday. These elections are an important event and prove the resiliency of Lebanon’s democratic culture despite many challenges.

“Members of Congress are watching this election with great interest. We want Lebanon’s election to take place in peace -- free from threats, intimidation, or violence.

“In recent years the US Congress has supported Lebanon’s sovereignty, democratic aspirations, and legitimate institutions with increasing vigor and financial commitment. It is my strong hope that the results of the upcoming election will allow this process to continue and flourish."
