Washington, DC - Congressman Howard L. Berman, Ranking Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, released the following statement commending the Obama Administration’s decision to impose greater Iran sanctions.
“We must keep the pressure on the Iranian regime and take advantage of every opportunity to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapons capability. I am pleased the Treasury Department has taken an important step in applying sanctions to 24 additional Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) front companies, and two entities that are subordinates of Iran’s Aerospace Industries Organization (AIO). This action will help to freeze the assets of Iranian proliferators of weapons of mass destruction and isolate them from the U.S. financial systems; hopefully, other countries will follow the Obama Administration’s example."
