Rep. Howard Berman applauds UN vote on Iran Human Rights Abuses

Washington, D.C. - Congressman Howard Berman, Ranking Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, released the following statement applauding today’s vote at United Nation’s Human Rights Council’s to establish an independent UN human rights monitor on Iran.

“Today in Geneva the UN Human Rights Council has finally prioritized human rights abuses by putting the regime in Tehran on notice that the international community will not turn a blind eye towards the ongoing and flagrant human rights abuses perpetrated against the people of Iran. This resolution will help force the Iranian government to answer for its brutal suppression of opposition figures, arbitrary arrests of political protesters, and other heinous human rights violations."
