Engel Statement on Administration’s Decision to Deny Visa to Iran UN Ambassador Appointee

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Foreign Affairs on April 11, 2014. It is reproduced in full below.

Washington D.C. -Rep. Eliot Engel, the Ranking Member on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, released the following statement regarding the Administration’s decision to deny a visa to the United States for Iran’s United Nation’s Ambassador appointee, Hamid Abutalebi.

“I applaud the Administration’s decision to deny Mr. Abutalebi a visa to the U.S. His appointment by the Iranian regime serves as a clear reminder that Iran remains a bad actor in the region and beyond, regardless of the most recent charm offensive. I hope Iran gets the message that we don’t forget easily the transgressions of the past.".
