Chairman Royce Announces Afghanistan Hearing

Washington, D.C. - Today, U.S. Rep. Ed Royce (R-CA), Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, announced that on Wednesday, June 25, the Committee will convene a hearing on Afghanistan to examine the military drawdown, ongoing security threats in the region, and issues of corruption and governance. The hearing, entitled “Afghanistan’s Transition " will begin at 10:00 a.m.

Chairman Royce on the hearing: “The United States maintains a strong interest in the long-term stability and security of Afghanistan. But developments of the past month will have significant consequences for the country’s security situation and our future diplomatic relations with Afghanistan. At this hearing, Committee Members will have an opportunity to question the Administration on the impacts of the military drawdown, the release of five senior Taliban prisoners, and the prospects for working with a new Afghan president."
