Chairman Royce Statement on the Extradition of “El Chapo” Guzman from Mexico to the United States

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Foreign Affairs on Jan. 19, 2017. It is reproduced in full below.

Washington, D.C. - House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce (R-CA) released the following statement after Mexico’s decision to extradite to the United States the head of the Sinaloa drug cartel, Joaquin “El Chapo" Guzman.

“I commend the Government of Mexico’s decision to extradite drug kingpin Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman to the U.S. to face charges including drug trafficking, kidnapping and murder. The heroin epidemic, fueled by Mexican drug cartels, is absolutely devastating our communities. This extradition marks an important moment in U.S.-Mexico relations, and I hope it will lead to increased cooperation between our countries to destroy these dangerous drug cartels and secure our border.".
