Washington, D.C. - Tomorrow the United States and Togo will co-host the 2017 African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) Forum. The Forum, established by AGOA legislation House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce (R-CA) championed in Congress, will explore ways to deepen critical U.S.-Africa trade and investment relationships.
Chairman Royce said: “AGOA continues to bolster U.S.-Africa trade. This important Act supports hundreds of millions of dollars in investment and betters livelihoods across the continent through employment connected to the global economy. Increased trade with the continent supports thousands of American jobs. The 2015 reauthorization of AGOA provides an important opportunity for both the U.S. and African countries to rededicate efforts and take full advantage of the AGOA platform to further strengthen our trade relationships. The Forum is an important chance to advance that agenda. I will do my part to continue to ensure that the value of AGOA is recognized and supported in the U.S."
NOTE: Chairman Royce recently introduced the AGOA and MCA Modernization Act (H.R. 3445), bipartisan legislation to strengthen both the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) and the Millennium Challenge Act (MCA).
