Chairman Ros-Lehtinen on the hearing: “This hearing is an opportunity for Members to press the administration on current U.S. policy in Syria and its strategy going forward. Assad and his backers have solidified control over Syria in recent months, and appear set do so again with tragic results in Idlib, while Iran increases its presence in the country even further. With the administration yet to lay out a detailed and comprehensive strategy for achieving its goal of reducing Iranian influence in the region, Members will be interested in hearing how the latest developments in Syria impact U.S. plans and what policy changes may be necessary to protect U.S. interests and those of our allies."
