Washington, DC - House Foreign Affairs Committee Lead Republican Michael McCaul released the below statement regarding the NATO Defense Ministerial meetings this week.

“We would not be where we are today without the support of NATO in the aftermath of 9/11, and we must all remain committed to our shared mission in Afghanistan. Given the importance of our counterterrorism mission there, this week’s ministerial is an opportunity for constructive discussions and joint decisions for the US and our allies. In order to preserve our collective counterterrorism and security interests, as well as the democratic and human rights gains of the last 20 years, U.S. and coalition force posture must be informed by conditions on the ground and a residual force must be maintained for the foreseeable future.".
