McCaul Statement on Full Committee Vote to Repeal the 2002 AUMF

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Foreign Affairs on March 25, 2021. It is reproduced in full below.

Washington, DC - House Foreign Affairs Committee Lead Republican Michael McCaul released the following statement following the full committee vote to repeal the 2002 authorized use for military force (AUMF).

“There is bipartisan support for updating the outdated authorized uses of military force. But we must do this as part of a comprehensive replacement to provide clear authorities against the terrorists who still plot to kill Americans at home and abroad. Rushing this stand-alone repeal after just two days and without even talking to our military leaders sends a terrible message to our adversaries around the world. And, as the growing crisis on our southern border illustrates, careless messaging from leaders in Washington can have real-world costs.".
