McCaul Statement on the Biden Administration Lifting ICC Sanctions

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Foreign Affairs on April 5, 2021. It is reproduced in full below.

Washington, DC - House Foreign Affairs Committee Lead Republican Michael McCaul released the following statement after the Biden Administration lifted sanctions on the International Criminal Court’s prosecutors.

“The United States is committed to justice both at home and abroad, including when ICC prosecutors target military personnel in a rogue inquiry. There must be real consequences to their illegitimate attempts to bypass our country’s judicial process and our sovereignty. The United States is not a party to the ICC’s Rome Statute and therefore, our citizens are not at the mercy of the court. I strongly encourage the new prosecutor to put an end to the inquiry into U.S. personnel and the court’s recent ruling unfairly targeting Israel.".
