LIEBERMAN COMMENTS ON SBINET DECISION

The following press release was published by the U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs on Jan. 14, 2011. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON - Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Chairman Joe Lieberman, ID-Conn., issued the following statement Friday in response to the Department of Homeland Security’s decision to end the SBInet program as originally conceived:

“The Secretary’s decision to terminate SBInet ends a long-troubled program that spent far too much of the taxpayers’ money for the results it delivered. From the start, SBInet’s one-size-fits-all approach was unrealistic. The Department’s decision to use technology based on the particular security needs of each segment of the border is a far wiser approach, and I hope it will be more cost effective."
