The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, will close a portion of Highway T-15 that traverses Lake Red Rock dam and the North Tailwater Recreation Area, May 31 through June 2 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. to allow for inspections and survey work on the dam. A signed detour will be in place for those traveling between Pella and Knoxville, Iowa. The Lake Red Rock Visitor Center, North Overlook and South Tailwater Recreation Areas will remain accessible during the closure.
The work, which is part of a regularly scheduled inspection, will include surveys at Red Rock Dam conducted by USACE and U.S. Geological Survey employees. The surveys will include modern non-invasive subsurface investigation methods that will provide valuable information about the dam and its foundation. The information collected will provide a more comprehensive understanding of the dam for more efficient management of the dam into the future.
