Counselor Chollet’s Meeting with NUG Representatives

Counselor Derek Chollet met today with NUG-designated Acting President Duwa Lashi La, NUG-designated Prime Minister Mahn Win Khaing Than, and NUG-designated Foreign Minister Zin Mar Aung. The Counselor voiced deep appreciation for the NUG’s leadership in response to the crisis created by the military coup d’état one year ago. He reaffirmed the United States’ strong commitment to the people of Burma and the swift restoration of the country’s path to democracy. The Counselor expressed deep sympathy for the victims of the military regime’s horrific and violent crackdown and pledged to continue promoting accountability for those responsible. In addition, they discussed efforts to achieve a more inclusive democratic future for Burma and to promote a peaceful resolution to the crisis. They also underscored the importance of expanding humanitarian assistance, including in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
