Putting Human Rights at the Center of

U.S. Foreign Policy

The United States is deeply committed to a world in which human rights are protected, where human rights defenders are celebrated, and where those who commit human rights abuses are held accountable. Promoting respect for human rights is not something we can do alone, but is best accomplished working with our friends and partners across the globe. For that reason, the U.S. intends to seek a seat on the UN Human Rights Council for its next term. If elected to the Human Rights Council, we will use the opportunity to be a leading voice within the Council for promoting respect for human rights.
