Granholm: 'We do want to transition to clean homegrown American energy' during oil reserve tour

U.S. Rep. Garret Graves, R-La., toured the U.S. Strategic Oil Reserve Site May 24 with U.S. Energy Secretary Granholm to discuss the nation's supply of oil reserves.

According to Fox News 8, the duo linked up in to visit Baton Rouge’s strategic petroleum reserve, tour the General Electric wind blade test plant in Michoud and participate in discussions regarding environmental policy.

“Touring the Strategic Oil Reserve Site today reinforces the key role that Louisiana plays in our nation’s energy security, and I appreciate the opportunity to join the secretary,” Graves said, according to L'Observateur. “The briefing today also highlighted the millions of barrels of oil and trillions of cubic feet of natural gas offshore Louisiana that are being blocked by President Biden and contributing to record gas prices."

Granholm’s visit to GE Michoud came hours after she announced the DOE would open the U.S. Petroleum Reserves in Louisiana and Texas to lower rising U.S. gas prices, according to Fox News 8.

“If we have learned anything from Putin’s invasion and the volatility of the fossil fuel markets we do want to transition to clean homegrown American energy to be energy secure and to rely on technologies are prices that continue to go down instead of being volatile,” Granholm said, according to Fox News 8.

According to Fox News 8, Granholm will withdraw one million barrels a day for six months.

The Advocate reports the oil extraction is being conducted in a partnership with various International Energy Agency nations. It is the largest U.S. oil extraction of all time and will have an outcome of 60 million additional barrels of oil this year.
