Amy Holman, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service with the rank of Minister Counselor, began her assignment as Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of African Affairs in November 2021. Previously she was Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Dakar. Other assignments include Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary and Office Director in the Trade Policy and Programs division of the Bureau of Economic and Business Affairs from 2016 to 2019. Her previous State Department assignments include Economic Counselor, Kabul; and Director, Economic Policy Staff, Bureau of African Affairs. Amy also served in Islamabad, Brussels, Lima, Lagos, and Caracas.

She holds a Master’s Degree from the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University, a B.A. from the University of Michigan, and a B.A. from L’Institut d’Etudes Politiques at the Université de Strasbourg, France. She has a son and a daughter.
