The following fpc briefing was published by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor on June 13. It is reproduced in full below.

Sara Minkara, U.S. Special Advisor on International Disability Rights speaks about the United States’ new co-chair role for the Global Action on Disability (GLAD) Network. With Vladimir Cuk’s organization, the International Disability Alliance (IDA), as the permanent co-chair, the United States will proudly co-lead GLAD for the first time beginning this year. Members of the GLAD Network strive to achieve inclusive international development and humanitarian action. Persons with disabilities often face stigma, exclusion and discrimination. As a consequence, they are over-represented amongst the people living in persistent poverty, and are less likely than others to be able to lift themselves out of poverty. It is estimated that 80% of people with disabilities live in developing countries.
