Homeland Security Investigations recently announced its special agents apprehended an alleged human smuggler connected to a hostage case.
Emigdio Gonzalez-Gamboa, 33, was officially charged by members of the HSI El Paso Santa Teresa (New Mexico) Human Smuggling Group with harboring undocumented non-American citizens following his arrest in Anthony, New Mexico, according to a June 10 news release.
“HSI remains steadfast to work with our partners to bring to justice those who conspire to undermine our nation’s immigration laws for their own profit and seek to abuse a vulnerable population,” Frank B. Burrola, special agent in charge for HSI El Paso, said in the release.
Gonzalez-Gamboa was recently tied to a possible kidnapping case already under investigation by the Dona Ana County Sheriff's Office June 1 after a woman reported her sister was being held captive. The victim, identified only as Jane Doe, was later located inside a trailer on Warthen Road in Anthony, where she was rescued by law enforcement officers, according to the release.
“Human smuggling organizations threaten the security of the United States as well as the lives of the people on whom they prey,” Burrola stated in the release.
The Dona Ana County Sheriff's Office and the U.S. Border Patrol provided assistance to Homeland Security Investigations division agents throughout the investigation, the release reported.
