Polly Trottenberg, USDOT Deputy Secretary and Chair of the Union Station Redevelopment Corporation (USRC) Board has selected Doug Carr to be President and CEO of USRC.
Doug joins USRC from Moynihan Station Development Corporation, where he worked with and led teams to transform the historic James A. Farley Post Office Building, first built in 1912, into a mixed-use train hall capable of handling millions of passengers annually. Moynihan Train Hall now serves as one of New York City’s most vital transportation centers and prominently features both classic and contemporary architectural elements.
Previously, Doug spent nearly 15 years with Jones Lang LaSalle heading up advisory services for clients that include the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey for the World Trade Center Redevelopment, the MTA/Hudson Yards, the California High Speed Rail Authority, and the United States Army and Air Force.

A nonprofit organization charged with preserving and restoring Washington Union Station's historical and architectural significance, USRC plays a central role in future development of one of the nation's most important transportation hubs. Doug's leadership experience, track record of project delivery, and ability to bring people together will help maximize Washington Union Station's full potential.

Former President & CEO Beverley Swaim-Staley has led the nonprofit since 2012. Her tenure included successful rehabilitation and restoration efforts that have benefited millions of visitors and passengers each year. These efforts include restoring the historic Main Hall and overseeing projects to improve infrastructure damaged by the 2011 earthquake.
"Beverley's years of leadership have been instrumental, and her commitment to maintaining Washington Union Station's significance will positively impact the nation's capital and travelers for generations to come. She is a role model for women in the transportation industry," Deputy Secretary Trottenberg added.

The Board of Directors did a great job in their search and selection,” outgoing USRC President & CEO Beverley Swaim-Staley said. “Doug's experience in New York will be very beneficial to Washington Union Station's continued development as the leading intermodal transportation hub in the nation.”
USRC was established in 1983 by Secretary of Transportation Elizabeth Dole following the passage of the Union Station Redevelopment Act. Washington Union Station is owned by the United States Department of Transportation, and the Department works closely with USRC and a range of stakeholders to ensure the transportation hub is positioned to meet the needs of Americans.
“The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) deeply values its role on the USRC Board, and we look forward to working with Doug during this exciting time for the organization and the transportation sector,” FRA representative and USRC Board Member Diana Lopez said.
“Washington Union Station is central to intercity and commuter rail, Metro, and bus operations for District, Maryland and Virginia residents, as well as Americans along the Northeast and Southeast Corridor. FRA will continue its work with USRC and others to make rail services safer and more convenient for all,” FRA Administrator Amit Bose added.

We look forward to welcoming Doug to the helm of USRC as we embark on a critical era to revitalize the historic station, double its ridership capacity, and reconnect it to the neighborhood,” D.C.
