Point Reyes National Seashore announces the 52nd anniversary celebration of the Morgan Horse Ranch. The event will be held Saturday June 25, 2022, from 10 am to 3 pm. Activities include riding and horseshoeing demonstrations, old-fashion knot tying, rope throwing, and much more. This is a family friendly event. It is free and open to the public.
"We are very excited to share this celebration of the Morgan Horse Ranch," says Craig Kenkel, park superintendent. "Thanks to our park fundraising partner, Point Reyes National Seashore Association, the park has been able to make many improvements to the ranch this past year including new fencing, and new saddles. This is all part of the park’s efforts to revitalize the program and highlight its important role in park operations."
Rangers on horseback are essential for visitor safety and resource protection. The mounted rangers patrol busy trails such as the park’s Bear Valley trail and can answer visitor questions. Many visitors enjoy getting a closer look at the horses and can ask resource and trip planning questions. The rangers on horseback can also access areas otherwise difficult to reach by foot. This is an important ability during an emergency such as a visitor injury.
The Morgan Horse Ranch is in the Bear Valley Visitor Center area. Visitors can park at the main parking lot and take a short walk up to the ranch. There is accessible parking at the ranch.
