San Diego Sector Border Patrol agents rescued two men in two separate events Sunday.
On June 5th, at approximately 3:13 a.m., Border Patrol agents received a call from a man claiming that he was injured, lost and out of food in a remote area on Otay Mountain. Border Patrol Search, Trauma and Rescue (BORSTAR) agents were immediately deployed and found the man at approximately 8:15 a.m.
Due to the man’s injuries and the mountainous terrain, the agents were unable to carry him to safety and requested air support. CAL FIRE responded and was able to hoist the man and transport him to a nearby hospital for treatment of his leg and hand injuries.
Later that night, at approximately 11:30 p.m., Border Patrol was informed that a lost hiker had called 9-1-1. The hiker provided his coordinates and stated that he was tired and without food or water.
Agents from the Chula Vista station responded and found the man near a road close to the Otay Lakes Reservoir dam. The subject was found in good shape with no injuries.
The 29-year-old Mexican national was determined to be present in the United States illegally.
The man was transported to a nearby Border Patrol station and processed accordingly.
“I am proud of the efforts that these agents and our partners made to locate the men as quickly as they did.” said San Diego Sector Chief Patrol Agent Aaron Heitke. “The terrain can be unforgiving and incidents like these are a harsh reminder of how quickly people can become lost and place themselves in life threatening situations.”
