Eight Distressed Migrants Rescued in Three Days

U.S. Border Patrol agents from El Centro Sector in two separate events, rescued eight undocumented individuals in the Jacumba Wilderness region.

At approximately 1:05 p.m., Monday, Calexico Station notified El Centro station of a call they received from a lost individual stating they were lost and in need of assistance. Agents responded to the last known GPS coordinates provided by the caller and at approximately 1:30 p.m., agents located three individuals. A wellness check conducted of the individuals determined that no additional medical assistance was needed. The 19-year-old El Salvadoran female and her two children were safely taken into custody and transported to the El Centro Sector Processing Center.

The second incident occurred on Wednesday at approximately 5:45 p.m., when agents apprehended a group of five individuals who illegally crossed into the U.S., a mile and a half, north of the U.S./Mexico border. A wellness check conducted of the individuals determined that they were all dehydrated and needed additional medical assistance. Agents requested that Emergency Medical Services be dispatched out to their location. The group consisted of five adult males, Mexican nationals, varying from age 19-51. They were transported to a local nearby hospital for further medical treatment. Upon their release from the hospital, they will be transported to El Centro Sector Processing Center.

Agents determined that all eight individuals did not possess the required documents to be legally present in the United States.

Since October, El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents have successfully rescued 210 individuals who were lost, in distress, or abandoned by smugglers.
