Secretary Blinken to Deliver Remarks on the Announcement of a U.S. Refugee Admissions Program Priority 2 Designation for Afghan Nationals

The following notice to the press was published by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs on Aug. 2, 2021. It is reproduced in full below.

Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken will deliver remarks on the announcement of a Priority 2 (P-2) designation granting U.S. Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP) access for certain Afghan nationals and their eligible family members on Monday, Aug. 2, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. in the Press Briefing Room at the Department of State.

This designation expands the opportunity to permanently resettle in the United States to many thousands of Afghans and their immediate family members who may be at risk due to their U.S. affiliation but who are not eligible for a Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) because they did not have qualifying employment, or because they have not met the time-in-service requirement to become eligible.

This event will be pooled press coverage only and live streamed on www.state.gov.

The Department Press Briefing with Spokesperson Ned Price will immediately follow this event.
