Today, USAID Deputy Administrator Isobel Coleman met with Spain’s Secretary of State for International Cooperation Pilar Cancela. They discussed the global food security crisis, as well as democracy and humanitarian needs in Central America.

Deputy Administrator Coleman shared with Secretary Cancela that the United States is committed to working with partners, like Spain, to respond urgently and at scale to the global food security crisis exacerbated by Russia’s war against Ukraine, including in countries far from the conflict.

The two also discussed the United States and Spain’s aligned priorities in the northern Central America region, ranging from addressing issues of corruption, transparency, and freedom of the press, to mitigating gender-based violence.
