A baseball field at a park near Tiber Dam on the Marias River southwest of Chester, Mont., is restored thanks to efforts of U.S. Bureau of Reclamation employees.

A team of employees from the Bureau’s Marias/Milk Rivers Division spent “two years refurbishing the baseball field at Sanford Park,” a July 6 news release said.

“It is great to see all the kids running everywhere and adults playing softball out at Sanford Park again,” Toby Tabor, supervisory natural resources specialist for the Montana Area Office’s Marias/Milk Rivers Division, said in the news release. “The team here put in a lot of hard work to fix and promote the field to get the community involved and out here enjoying this little oasis near Tiber Dam.”

Improvements at the field include a new backstop, new bases, landscaping, lining out the field and a box of sports equipment such as bats, baseballs and kickballs for use by visitors, the release reported. Engineer equipment operators Eric Kleinsasser, Nicholas Ludwig and Benjamin Colbry plus Mary Devries, administrative support assistant, worked on the project.

“I can't wait to hear more about residents enjoying the area and other activities happening the rest of the summer,” Ryan Newman, Montana Area office manager, said in the news release. “I am very proud of the team at the Marias/Milk Rivers Division for getting involved with the local community and restoring Sanford Park."
