Granholm: Quad energy ministers lay path for 'shared vision for a clean energy transition'

U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer M. Granholm recently participated in the first-ever full meeting of Quad energy ministers from Australia, India, Japan and the United States.

According to a July 13 Department of Energy news release, the Biden administration is working to enhance the group’s ability to address emerging threats, including climate change, and the meeting was the first time in the groups 18-year history that energy leaders from all four nations have come together to discuss security and transitions to clean energy.

“Yesterday’s meeting was a historic moment where Quad energy ministers, for the first time, had the opportunity to chart next steps forward on our shared vision for a clean energy transition in the Indo Pacific,” Granholm said in the news release.

Granholm also noted the Quad demonstrated its vitality in shaping foreign policy agendas and the group was able to foster a mutual view for the transition to clean energy, the release reported.

"What an historic moment where Quad Energy Ministers charted next steps on our shared vision for an Indo-Pacific clean energy transition," Granholm said in a July 13 post on Twitter. “I look forward to our collective progress in strengthening and enhancing global deployment of affordable and secure energy."

She also noted on Twitter how honored she was to participate in the meeting with India Minister of Power and New and Renewable Energy RK Singh, Australia Minister for Climate Change and Clean Energy Chris Bowen and Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Koichi Hagiuda.

U.S. Embassy Australia also lauded the historic meeting on Twitter, noting the group was able to discuss progress of the partnership, including the Quad Clean Energy Innovation and Deployment work program, which has been in the works since Biden took office.

The embassy also noted the leaders affirmed their stand to boost development and technologies key to a move to clean energy.
