Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo announced a $4.7 million grant to help fund the construction of the Mylan Park Regional BMX Facility in Morgantown, W.V., from the department’s Economic Development Administration.

The Mylan Park Foundation will receive American Rescue Plan funding designed to attract new people to the city, its companies and its attractions. It will strengthen the local tourism economy in a region that has been devastated by the decline in the usage of coal, according to a July 12 Department of Commerce news release.

“President Biden’s American Rescue Plan delivers federal resources to communities to ensure our nation not only recovers from the pandemic but builds a better America for the future,” Raimondo said in the release. “This project will boost tourism and outdoor recreation in Morgantown while providing economic stability for the region.”

Sen. Joe Manchin said the announcement was great news for Morgantown’s tourism industry and the city’s efforts to develop sustainable tourism growth and spur new economic opportunities for the region, the release reported.

“The EDA continues to be a strong partner for West Virginia through their support for economic development projects across the state, and I look forward to seeing the positive impacts of this funding for the Mountain State,” Manchin said in the release.

Rep. David B. McKinley said the investment and another $1 million in additional local investments is crucial to help West Virginia’s economy emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic, the release reported.

“The Mylan Park Regional BMX Facility will create new jobs and help add to West Virginia’s already-thriving tourism industry,” McKinley said in the release.
