Rapid City Man Charged With Theft Of Government Property And False Statement

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Rapid City, South Dakota, man has been indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly converting to his own use funds of the United States Air Force between August and December of 2011.

Derrick Scott, age 22, was indicted by a federal grand jury on Nov. 19, 2012, for Theft of Government Property and False Statement. Scott appeared before United States Magistrate Judge Veronica L. Duffy on Jan. 15, 2013, and pleaded not guilty to the indictment. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 10 years' imprisonment and a $250,000 fine. The charges are merely accusations and Scott is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

The investigation is being conducted by the Department of the Air Force. Scott was released on bond pending trial. A trial date has been set for March 26, 2013.
