Rapid City Woman Arraigned On Assault Charges

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Rapid City, South Dakota woman has been indicted by a federal grand jury for Assault With a Dangerous Weapon and Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury.

Raylene C. Chips, a/k/a Raelene C. Chips, a/k/a Raelene C. Chipps, age 23, was indicted by a federal grand jury on Oct. 16, 2012. She appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on Feb. 11, 2013 and pled not guilty to the indictment. The maximum penalty on each count upon conviction is 10 years' imprisonment, a $250,000 fine or both and a period of supervised release of 3 years. The charges are merely accusations and the Defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

The investigation is being conducted by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services. Assistant U.S. Attorney Troy Morley is prosecuting the case. Chipps was released on bond pending trial. A trial date has not been set.
