Tampa, Florida - U.S. District Judge James D. Whittemore sentenced Preston D. Wilbur (46, Davenport) yesterday to 10 years in federal prison for distributing child pornography. Wilbur pleaded guilty on Nov. 14, 2012.
According to court documents, Wilbur distributed numerous images and videos depicting child pornography to undercover law enforcement officers over the Internet. During the execution of a search warrant at Wilbur's residence, officers seized numerous computers, hard drives, and USB flash drives that contained child pornography. A forensic examination of the seized property revealed more than 300,000 images and 8,389 videos of child pornography.
This case was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Stacie B. Harris.
It is another case brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by the United States Attorneys' Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.
