Rosebud Woman Sentenced On Assault Charges

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Rosebud, South Dakota woman convicted of Assault by Striking, Beating, and Wounding and Simple Assault was sentenced on March 22, 2013 by U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange.

Sarah Richards, age 25, was sentenced to 1 year probation on each count to run concurrently and a $20 special assessment to the Victim Assistance Fund. Richards was indicted by a federal grand jury on Sept. 19, 2012, and pled guilty to the charge on Jan. 22, 2013.

The conviction stems from an incident that took place on Nov. 30, 2011 when Richards stabbed the victim with a butcher knife.

The investigation was conducted by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Marie H. Ruettgers. Richards was released.
