U.S. Attorney for the District of Wyoming Christopher A. Crofts announced that on March 21, 2013, Shawn Antelope, Jr., a 19-year-old Northern Arapaho Tribal Member, was charged in an indictment with one count of assault resulting in serious bodily injury in violation of 18 U.S.C. §§ 113(a)(6) and 1153 and one count of assault with a dangerous weapon with intent to do bodily harm in violation of 18 U.S.C. §§ 113(a)(3) and 1153. The charges against Mr. Antelope stem from an incident that occurred on Aug. 1, 2012 and an incident that occurred on Dec. 18, 2012, both on the Wind River Indian Reservation. Mr. Antelope is facing a potential ten (10) year term of imprisonment on each count, and could be ordered to pay restitution, a fine, and special assessment. An indictment is only an accusation. In every criminal case, the accused is presumed to be innocent until proven guilty, and the government always has the burden of proving guilt at trial beyond a reasonable doubt.
