United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a McLaughlin, South Dakota man charged with Failure to Pay Legal Child Support was sentenced on May 20, 2013 by U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange. Jesse L. Brown Otter, age 45, was sentenced to time served, a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund, and child support restitution in the amount of $25,342.12.
Brown Otter was indicted on for failing to pay over $25,000 in past due child support by a federal grand jury on Aug. 14, 2012. He was ordered by the Eighth Judicial Circuit Court, Corson County, to pay $150 per month for his minor child, commencing Aug. 1, 1992. At the time of indictment, he had not made a child support payment since July 2007, and the total arrearage amount was $25,342.12. He pleaded guilty to the charge on Feb. 26, 2013.
