Hammond, Indiana - United States Attorney David Capp announced that Rita Law, 55, of Chicago, Illinois was charged in a sealed Complaint filed on Oct. 17, 2013, now unsealed, with transporting an individual for the purposes of prostitution.
According to the Complaint, Law is suspected of operating a prostitution ring out of three massage parlors in the Northern District of Indiana.Law was arrested on Oct. 18, 2013 after deplaning from a Cathay Pacific airline flight in Hong Kong.HSI’s (“Homeland Security Investigations") Hong Kong office coordinated with the Hong Kong Department of Justice and the Hong Kong Police Force to both arrest and extradite Ms. Law back to the United States to face the charge contained in the Complaint.
This charge was filed as the result of an investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with the assistance of Homeland Security Investigations Hong Kong.This case has been assigned to and will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Susan Collins.
The United States Attorney's Office emphasized that a Complaint is merely an allegation and that all persons charged are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court.
