Michael J. Moore, United States Attorney for the Middle District of Georgia, announced that Kyle Clemons, aged 38, of an unknown address in Macon, Georgia, was sentenced by Chief U.S. District Court Judge C. Ashley Royal on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014, to serve sixty three (63) months in federal prison for bank robbery.
Mr. Clemons entered a plea of guilty to the charge on Sept. 26, 2013. As part of his plea agreement, Mr. Clemons admitted that on August 5, 2013, he entered the State Bank located at 614 Shurling Drive in Macon, Georgia where he asked a bank teller if robbing a bank was a federal offense, slammed a book on the counter and demanded money. The teller gave approximately $620 to Mr. Clemons who then fled the bank.
“My office takes bank robbery seriously, even if the robber only gets a small amount of cash. It is the act of committing the crime, not the amount stolen, that has sent Mr. Clemons to federal prison," said U.S. Attorney Michael Moore.
The case was investigated by Bibb County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney Michael T. Solis prosecuted the case for the government.
