Stephen R. Wigginton, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, announced today that Daron Whitt, 30, of St. Louis, Missouri, was sentenced in federal district court in East St. Louis for the crime of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
Whitt was sentenced to 51 months in prison, to be followed by 3 years of supervised release, a $100 special assessment, and a fine of $500, following his plea of guilty, on Nov. 18, 2013. The charges relate to an incident that occurred on March 17, 2013, in Brooklyn, Illinois, when Whitt, driving erratically, was stopped by a Brooklyn police officer, who then found a 9mm. Beretta pistol on Whitt’s person. Whitt was previously convicted of Possession of a Firearm by a Felon on April 24, 2007, in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri. The sentencing judge also ordered forfeiture of the firearm.
The case was investigated by members of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen B. Clark.
