Doctor Indicted For Controlled Substance Delivery

COEUR D’ALENE - Dr. Rafael Beier, 60, of Kingston, Idaho, pleaded not guilty on June 20, 2014, to a grand jury indictment charging him with unlawful distribution of a controlled substance. Beier was arrested on Thursday, June 19, at his place of business. A trial is set for Aug. 29, 2014. Beier remains in federal custody pending a detention hearing scheduled for June 25, 2014.

The charge of distributing a controlled substance is punishable by up to twenty years in prison, a maximum fine of $1,000,000.00 and at least three years of supervised release.

An indictment is a means of charging a person with criminal activity. It is not evidence. The person is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
