CHARLESTON, W.Va. - United States Attorney Booth Goodwin announced that Shannon Murray, 42, of Charleston, West Virginia was sentenced today in federal court in Charleston to one year and one day in federal prison. Murray previously pled guilty in August of 2014 admitting that he sold oxycodone pills to a confidential informant working with the Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Network Team (“MDENT") on Feb. 25, 2013 at a home on Kirkwood Drive in Charleston. Following the drug deal, Murray was arrested with another individual believed to have been the Detroit source for the pills Murray sold.
This case is being prosecuted as part of an ongoing effort led by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia to combat the illicit sale and misuse of prescription drugs. The U.S. Attorney’s Office, joined by federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, is committed to aggressively pursuing and shutting down illegal pill trafficking, eliminating open air drug markets, and curtailing the spread of opiate painkillers in communities across the Southern District.
