CHARLESTON, W.Va. - United States Attorney Booth Goodwin announced today that Blain Salmons, Jr., 40, of Alum Creek, West Virginia, entered a guilty plea in federal court in Charleston to being a felon in possession of a firearm. On Oct. 29, 2015, Salmons was arrested by the Boone County Sheriff’s Department. At the time of his arrest, police determined that Salmons had been hunting out of season and was in possession of a Glenfield Model 30A, 30-30 rifle. Salmons was prohibited from possessing any firearm under federal law because of a 1997 felony conviction in Kanawha County Circuit Court for kidnapping and aggravated robbery.
Salmons faces up to ten years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000 when he is sentenced on Feb. 29, 2016.
This case was investigated by the Boone County Sheriff’s Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant United States Attorney Timothy D. Boggess is in charge of the prosecution.
The prosecution is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods. Project Safe Neighborhoods is a nationwide commitment to reduce gun crime in the United States by working with existing local programs that target gun crime.
