DES MOINES, IA - On Feb. 22, 2016, Robert Eugene Graham, 46, of Michigan City, Indiana, was sentenced by Chief United States District Court Judge John A. Jarvey to 210 months (17-1/2 years) in prison for the crime of interstate domestic violence, announced Acting United States Attorney Kevin E. VanderSchel. Graham had previously pleaded guilty to this offense on November 6, 2015.
According to the plea agreement, Graham traveled from Michigan City, Indiana, to Chariton, Iowa, on Jan. 15, 2015, while in possession of a Mossburg shotgun. The following morning, he shot the victim, with whom he had previously had an intimate relationship, while the victim was leaving her home for work. Graham’s actions caused severe, life-threatening bodily injury to the victim.
This matter was investigated by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation. The case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa, with assistance from the office of the Iowa Attorney General-Area Prosecutions.
