On May 3, 2016, Russell D. Morris, a/k/a "Dickie Donald," 36, of Herrin, was charged by one-count indictment with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, the Acting United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, James L. Porter, announced today. The indictment alleges that the offense occurred on Jan. 29, 2016, in Williamson County. Morris is scheduled to make his initial appearance in federal court on May 5, 2016.
An indictment is a formal charge against a defendant. Under the law, a defendant is presumed to be innocent of a charge until proved guilty beyond a reasonable doubt to the satisfaction of a jury.
The firearm offense carries a maximum penalty of up to 10 years’ imprisonment, to be followed by 3 years’ supervised release, and a $250,000 fine.
The ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Southern Illinois Enforcement Group and Illinois Department of Corrections - Parole Compliance Division. The Williamson County State’s Attorney’s Office assisted in the investigation.
