Rapid City Woman Sentenced for Mail Fraud

United States Attorney Randolph J. Seiler announced that a Rapid City, South Dakota, woman convicted of Mail Fraud was sentenced on Aug. 15, 2016, by Chief Judge Jeffrey L. Viken, U.S. District Court.

Danelle Arlene Newman, a/k/a Danelle Marshall, age 36, was sentenced to five years’ probation and ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund and $23,246.95 in restitution.

Newman was charged on Nov. 17, 2015, and pled guilty on April 29, 2016. The charge related to Newman fraudulently completing and mailing deeds to restricted Indian lands belonging to her mother to the Office of Special Trustee for American Indians and then using the money for her personal benefit.

This case was investigated by the Department of Interior, Office of Inspector General. Assistant U.S. Attorney Ben Patterson prosecuted the case.
