MADISON, WIS. - Jeffrey M. Anderson, Acting United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced today the unsealing of an indictment that charges Christopher Stevens, 32, Albany, Wis., with three counts of possessing methamphetamine with the intent to distribute. This sealed indictment was returned by a federal grand jury on June 22.
The indictment alleges that Stevens possessed methamphetamine with the intent to distribute on Dec. 20, 2016, and January 3 and 7, 2017.
Stevens was arrested in Albany yesterday by local and federal law enforcement officers. He made an initial appearance in U.S. District Court in Madison yesterday, and was held in custody pending a detention hearing scheduled for tomorrow at 10:00 a.m.
If convicted, Stevens faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison on each count. The charges against him are the result of an investigation by the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation; Drug Enforcement Administration; Dane County Narcotics Task Force; Dane County Sheriff’s Department; Madison Police Department; UW-Madison Police Department; U.S. Postal Inspection Service; Sauk County Drug Task Force; Richland-Iowa-Grant Drug Task Force; Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office; State Line Area Narcotics Team; and Rock County Special Investigations Unit. The prosecution of this case is being handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Diane Schlipper.
