Indictment Charging Eau Claire Man with Gun Crime is Unsealed

MADISON, WIS. - Jeffrey M. Anderson, Acting United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced today the unsealing of an indictment that charges Zan Morgan, 40, Eau Claire, Wis., with being a felon in possession of a firearm. The indictment was returned by a federal grand jury on June 22, and was unsealed following Morgan’s arrest.

The indictment alleges that Morgan possessed a loaded 9mm handgun, on March 4, 2017.

Morgan was arrested on July 2 in Eau Claire. He made an initial appearance in U.S. District Court in Madison on July 5.

If convicted, Morgan faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison. The charge against him is the result on an investigation by the Eau Claire Police Department. The prosecution of this case is being handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Corey Stephan.
